| PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE |
Welcome to the website for theAssociation for Negombo International Children’s Education.
N.I.C.E. is an International School close to the Bandaranayake International airport and has students from more than 15 different nations. Our multicultural and multinational character promotes a whole new learning experience for many of our students.
The curriculum is set to a very high standard and the students are prepared to take on many challenges through our different teaching methods. Apart from mainstream subjects such as English Language, Mathematics, Science, ICT, French, History and Geography, N.I.C.E. offers Sri Lanka Studies, Swimming, Physical Education, Morals and Ethics and Music as part of the curriculum. The curriculum offered is modern and relevant, leading to London GCE O-Level. In 2009, our students achieved 100% pass rate with 95% grades A – C and 38% A and A* grades. This is a reflection on the ability of our students and the dedication of our staff.
In August 2009 we started A Level classes teaching English Language, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, ICT, History, Economics and German. We now teach the full age range from 2+ to 18. We now offer a complete education for all. In addition to the academic subjects and sports, the children can choose from a range of club activities and they are offered three field trips each year. Our older students have participated in residential visits to Ella, Bentota and Anuradapura, and we have had visits to Kandy, Ratnapura, Gampaha, Kalpitiya Peninsula and Colombo, of course, as well as taking advantage of the beaches in Negombo.
There are two school productions each year, one before the Christmas break and an End of Year production which in 2009 was an original adaptation of the ‘Lambton Worm’ story from the North-East of England.
To complement our Teaching Staff we actively recruit Volunteer Teaching Assistants to assist with the English Language experience and other duties. Recently we have had two students taking a year out from their university in England and students from the Philippines and Sri Lanka. These volunteers make a tremendous contribution and their youthful enthusiasm is a good example for our students.
We are also very proud to have a highly committed parental body that is involved and dedicated towards further enhancement of the school atmosphere. We invite you to visit us and we are sure you will like what you see.
The aim of our school is to develop our students not only in academic areas but also in sports, cultural, spiritual and social aspects. The well-trained and dedicated group of national and expatriate teachers at N.I.C.E. is well qualified to provide guidance to the students in this endeavour. Our staff undergo in-service training to ensure the high quality and standard of the school and to keep abreast with the latest development in the education sector. Each school year N.I.C.E. provides several opportunities for our students to demonstrate their talent and knowledge by taking part in events such as quizzes, debates, spelling bees etc. We train our students to be well-rounded, well-mannered, sensitive global citizens to stride confidently and to face the many multifaceted challenges awaiting them on leaving school life.
Our school started in 1988. We are a happy and successful school and during this year, 2009 – 2010, as we celebrate our 21st anniversary year we look forward to a happy and successful future.
