The facilities at NICE are constantly being improved, as we are keen for our students to be in an environment which is as conducive to learning as possible. Please see below for more specific information: SPORTS SPORTS -BACK- NICE students take a keen interest in Sports. Sports programme covers a wide range of activities encouraging physical

Indoor Games Water Sports SCIENCE LABORATORY -BACK- In 2009 the PTA raised the necessary funds to provide a completely new science laboratory fully equipped for all the practical elements involved in the science lessons up to A Level standard. Theory and practical work are common and significant components of science education. The NICE science laboratory is engaged in a variety of experimental and theoretical enquiries. The aim of carrying out practical lessons is to develop students’ scientific skills, knowledge of how to plan and perform investigations and the ability to critically analyse results. Two of the most important goals with lab work are to act as a link between theory and practice and to enhance laboratory skills. Science teachers guide their students and encourage them to learn through their experiences and then share with other students. “Seeing is believing” is the key saying when it comes to science lessons. Our students enjoy science lessons together with
practical work. COMPUTER LABORATORY -BACK- The computer lab at NICE is modern and well equipped to cater to the individual needs of our students. Computers are Windows XP and have Internet access with broadband. The computers are updated regularly with new programmes and software. Currently they all have Adobe workshop and page maker and languages such as Visual basic, Java, and Pascal. Students from Year 2 to A level classes have at least two lessons per week for ICT as we believe that computers are important for education as well as pervading every aspect of everyday life. Individual use of internet and e-mail is granted for projects and homework. LIBRARY -BACK- NICE has a growing library, which plays a central role in the school-learning programme, providing a good range of reading material for students. There are both reading and reference books used for class time and for recreational reading. The NICE library consists of over 5,000 books. New books are purchased regularly from UK, Australia, America and Canada to maintain the interest of our avid readers. Authors include many of the most well-known and popular children’s authors, Roald Dahl, J.K. Rowling, Emily Rodda, Anthony Horowitz and Dr. Seuss as well as the classics such as C.S Lewis, Jules Verne, etc. Students have one dedicated library period each week as well as being able to return and borrow books during break times. Children are encouraged to borrow books each week to give them practice in reading books they enjoy and fostering a lifelong love of reading. Parents are asked to help read library books to their children and remind them to treat books with respect. We are always happy to receive donations of suitable books for the library. CANTEEN and DRINKING WATER -BACK- The school canteen aims to provide students with home cooked nutritious meals, which are prepared from the freshest ingredients on a daily basis. A choice of several dishes, healthy snacks and fresh juices is available and the menu is changed regularly. Students pay directly at the counter, or parents may wish to provide their children with a packed lunch. Students are expected to bring water bottles with them to school each day. Filtered water is available for children to drink. |
